Scripture Anchor:
“But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint.” — Isaiah 40:31 (NKJV)
The Hardest Word to Hear: Wait
We live in a world that tells us to rush. Quick answers, fast results, instant solutions. But God often leads His children down a slower path — one marked by waiting.
Think of a child waiting for Christmas morning or their birthday. They peek at the clock, glance at the tree, maybe even shake the box under it. To them, the wait feels endless. But the parent knows the timing is perfect. The gift is ready, the day will come, and the joy will be all the sweeter for the waiting.
God treats us the same way. What feels like delay is often preparation.
What God Does in the Waiting
Patience is not about doing nothing. It’s about learning to trust that God is at work behind the scenes. While we wait, He is:
– Strengthening our faith. Like roots deepening underground, He’s preparing us to carry fruit in due season.
– Shaping our character. Waiting refines pride into humility and impatience into trust.
– Setting the stage. God aligns circumstances in ways we could never orchestrate ourselves.
Sometimes the waiting season is the very place where God grows us the most.
Choosing Patience at the Crossroads
When we reach a crossroads, we’re tempted to run ahead of God. But patience means surrendering our timeline for His. It is choosing to believe that His pace is better than our plans.
The crossroads of patience invites us to pray differently:
– Instead of, “Lord, hurry up,” we pray, “Lord, prepare me.”
– Instead of, “When will this end?” we ask, “What do You want me to learn?”
This shift turns waiting from frustration into formation.
Encouragement for the Weary
If you feel weary in the waiting, Isaiah 40:31 is your promise: your strength will be renewed. You will not faint. You will soar again. God has not overlooked you. His timing is perfect, and His plans are sure.
Trust that what looks delayed is actually being delivered in God’s perfect season.
Prayer
Father, I confess that waiting is hard for me. I want answers now and change today. But Your Word reminds me that those who wait on You will find renewed strength. Teach me to trust You in the silence and the slowness. Help me believe that Your timing is always good. Amen.
